Great design is invisible. When users glide through an interface without friction, that is the hallmark of excellent UX. Here are the principles that separate good designers from great ones.
Hierarchy and Visual Flow
The eye moves naturally from large to small, from bright to muted, from top-left to bottom-right. Design with that flow in mind and your users will always know where to look next.
Consistency
Consistent colours, typography, spacing, and interaction patterns reduce cognitive load. Build a design system and stick to it.
Feedback and Affordance
Every interactive element should communicate its purpose. Buttons should look clickable; form fields should look fillable. Micro-animations and state changes tell users their actions were registered.
Accessibility First
Inclusive design is not a legal checkbox — it is a quality signal. Adequate contrast ratios, keyboard navigation, and semantic HTML make your product better for everyone.
